Magnetic Bead Safety Warning
MPS Health Related Services has been informed that students in several of our buildings have been playing with and sharing with other students some powerful magnetic beads. These have been used to make “fake” piercings, such as on the lip or nose and have resulted in harmful consequences such as infection and becoming embedded in the lip tissue. In one case, an accidental ingestion caused a student to have them surgically removed. Magnets will be always be attracted to each other, and because they're so strong, they can damage tissues as they try to move together, causing infection, blockage, and/or perforation of tissues or organs.  These beads can be purchased online or at bead stores and are intended to be used for Jewelry purposes. Please talk with your children to make sure they are not bringing them to school or using for unintended purposes.
