GEAR UP MINNEAPOLIS

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded college access program located within the Minneapolis Public School District serving 2,395 students across 11 middle schools and 5 high schools. The goal of GEAR UP is to ensure that students graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. We provide programs and services, such as college visits, financial education, tutoring, mentoring, parent engagement, and counseling to help students achieve their dreams of going to college.

9th GRADE: GEAR UP staff follow a cohort of students beginning in 6th & 7th grades through 12th grade. This 2016-2017 year, GEAR UP staff will be working with 9th grade. Next year, GEAR UP staff will be working with 9th & 10th grade.

 

2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

GEAR UP Teddy Freshmen

Students will have the opportunity to develop academic and study skills.

When: Every Tuesday from 3:10 to 4:00 p.m.

Where: Writing Center

GEAR UP Teddy Freshmen On-Track

Students can check in to see if they are on track to graduate.

When: Every other Thursday during lunch

Where: Cafeteria

Financial Education

Students will learn about financial budgeting, saving, and options to prepare for postsecondary enrollment.

GEAR UP PARTNERS

GEAR UP partners with a number of agencies to help provide support for our students and families. Our partnerships include: AchieveMPLS, Project Success, University YMCA, Minneapolis Career and Technical College, University of Minnesota Council on Economic Education, and the Search Institute.
