Roosevelt Immersion Pathway
immersion pathway

Roosevelt is excited to be the high school pathway for the Spanish Two Way Immersion Program!

Minneapolis Public Schools offers a Spanish dual immersion pathway that starts before kindergarten and now extends through high school, beginning at Roosevelt in Fall 2014.

MPS students can participate in Pre-K-5 Spanish immersion at Emerson or Windom, continue the pathway to Anwatin, and graduate as a Roosevelt Teddy. Thanks to MPS’ new enrollment plan that opens 4,800 more seats in Minneapolis schools, even more students will become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural!

Roosevelt is honored to offer this innovative, high rigor opportunity to our students next year! Dual immersion programming will give our students broader opportunities in high school, college, and life beyond.

Program Description

Students learn the Minneapolis Public Schools Focused Instruction curriculum. Instruction in Pre-K/Kindergarten is primarily in Spanish. English instruction gradually increases over the years to a 50/50 model in fifth grade. In Middle School, students receive three core content classes in Spanish and they may begin third language study along with middle school electives and extracurricular opportunities. The High School Program includes 1-2 advanced level Spanish classes in language arts or social studies and access to third language study. International Baccalaureate frames the learning of the 6-12th grade. The language immersion environment is enriched by maintaining approximately a 50/50 ratio of native Spanish speakers and native English speakers.
