Kristi Johnson, Theater

Welcome to the RHS Theatre Class Webpage!

My name is Kristi Johnson.  I'm the new theatre teacher at Roosevelt.  I've been doing theatre and education in many forms for the past 20 years.  I've gotten to do many fun and exciting things.  I started my professional career working on the northside of Milwaukee at an alternative school where I created a whole arts program.  After I left Milwaukee, I came back to Minneapolis and worked for many theatre companies including Chiildren's Theatre Company and Stages Theatre.  I also got a job in the Honolulu working for the Honolulu Theatre for Youth.  This was an exicitng adventure AND I learned how to surf.  I came back to Minneapolis to meet my partner in life, Kevin. We have two guinea pigs named Slim and Shady.

I love doing student generated work and I've done extensive work in this area with an emphasis on social justice, racial equity and identity awareness.  Some past shows include- Hands Free (developed with deaf and hard of hearing students), Whispers (developed with 44 high school young women based off the book Quenbees and Wannabees), and Listen More, Talk Less (a District 622 Educational Equity project).

I also love scripted plays.  Some of my favorites include Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Heartbeat of the Drum and The Amazing Adventure of the Marvelous Monkey King.

I've very excited to the start the new theatre program at Roosevelt.  We will have a brand new auditorium space in December 2015 and a Black Box space in August of 2016.
