Mike Walker, Assistant Principal

I am very excited to be an Assistant Principal at Roosevelt High School!  Roosevelt has had a special place in my heart since coming here as a high school freshmen in 1990. After graduating in 1994, I attended Southwest Minnesota State University on an athletic scholarship.

In 1999 I returned to Roosevelt as a volunteer assistant boys basketball coach while also starting my career as a Youth Development Director with the YMCA. While working in youth development I gained a skill set that has allowed me to build strong relationships with students while being able to motivate them to strive for excellence.

In 2006, I completed my Masters in counseling at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and became the Achieve Career and College Center Coordinator for Roosevelt. During my time in the Career and College Center, I was inspired to be an administrator by Vernon Rowe.  With the guidance and support of all the administrative staff here at Roosevelt, I gained my administrator’s license from St. Cloud State University in 2010. I served as a Dean of Students here at Roosevelt and as an interim Assistant Principal at Sanford Middle School in the spring of 2011.

This quote by Malcolm X sums up my path and continuous journey, “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today."
