The Learning Center
We would like to introduce you to a new program available to both volunteers and students. This program provides students with extra learning time after school. We call this after-school program the “9th Grade Learning Center”.
Begins: January 9, 2008
Days: Every Monday & Wednesday
Hours: 3:15-4:30
Who can use this resource? Any 9th grader who wants extra time to learn complicated Geography, Math, English or Science ideas. They would get one on one attention to learn skills like writing paragraphs, graphing, and concept mapping. S
tudents can sign up for this class on their own, or if a student does poorly on a test in a class, they would be ‘strongly encouraged’ to come to an after-school study session where they would have another opportunity to learn the materials AND to re-take the test. There are extra resources to help the student learn at this Learning Center. At least one 9th grade teacher will be volunteering his or her time to help out each session. Additionally, we are creating and training a team of student tutors to help tutor their peers. Snacks and bus tokens will be provided.
We hope that this after-school resource will give extra opportunity to those students who are very dedicated to learning and/or for students who, for whatever reason, need to make up missed learning. We don’t want any of our students to slip through without learning the important skills and knowledge taught in each class. And we don’t want any of our students to fail. We feel that this program can catch students before they fall too far behind.
We need everyone’s support to make this a great success. If you have any questions or comments, please let us know. We look forward to continuing our efforts towards your child’s success with this exciting new program!
