Hello! My name is Leslie Apperson and I am a Special Education Resource Teacher here at Roosevelt. I teach English Strategies 9 & 10 with support from EL teacher Lisa Johnson. I also co-teach English 9 with Kim Pickens and Laurel Kratowicz and English 10 with Marcia Howard.
I began my journey as a teacher eight years ago when I taught literacy intervention as an AmericCorps service member in Nevada. Since then I have taught special education, English literature and language and English as an additional language at a variety of grade levels. In 2016 I moved abroad and completed my master's of English literature and linguistics at KU Leuven in Belgium. I then moved to Madrid, Spain, where I completed a work-study program in teaching English as a second language. I taught English at a K-12 school while also studying for a certificate in bilingual education. I then found my way to Minneapolis, and taught English at DeLaSalle High School on Nicollet Island for three years before starting at Roosevelt as a resource teacher. I am currently completing my Special Education/ABS license at Augsburg University.
