First-Year Band-First Year Band and not "beginning band" is a non-auditioned ensemble for all students desiring to play a band instrument in an ensemble. The band learns theory, scales, musicianship, and the importance of collaboration as an ensemble. Our motto runs every rehearsal and the understanding is imperative to the development of our group! There are many performance opportunities for this ensemble as well.

Concert Band- Concert Band is a non-auditioned ensemble for all students desiring to continue playing beyond first year band ensemble. The band learns theory, major scales, melodic dictation, breathing techniques, and rhythmic dictation. The concert band is the foundation of the RHS Pep-Band that plays at fall and winter sports games.

•  Prerequisites include prior band experience and/or passing First-Year band

Orchestra- Orchestra is a non-auditioned ensemble for all students desiring to continue playing orchestra. Students in this ensemble range from first-year string players to more experienced string students. The ensemble rehearses as a large group and rehearses with sections for growth and improvement. There are several performance opportunities for this ensemble throughout the year.

Jazz Band- RHS Jazz Band meets regularly during the week and rehearses several jazz standards and combo pieces. The jazz ensemble is directed by Mr. Wilson and has several performance opportunities, including performing for KBEM Minneapolis’ Jazz Radio Station. 

Drumline- Under the direction of Mr. Davis, the RHS drumline meets regularly as a class during the school year and drum

Pep-Band/Marching Band - RHS Marching Band is new to the (2018-2019) school year. The marching band this year in the beginning stages will be rehearsing during classes and will be preparing for the football home games as well as (volleyball and basketball). The marching band will also be the pepband during games when they are not marching, the band consists of members from (First-Year Band, Drumline, and Concert Band). RHS Marching band will be continuing to grow to incorporate festivals, parades, and trips as the opportunity avails.
