HISTORY DAY A HUGE SUCCESS FOR TEDDIES!

This year Roosevelt sent an amazing 9 projects to State History Day and REPRESENTED! Spoiler alert: Roosevelt is sending TWO projects to the National Competition and is the only MPS school sending projects this year.   The annual theme was "Communication, the key to understanding"

The following projects were recognized at State this weekend:

  • Bela Santan for “Articles 370 and 35A: Miscommunication, Misperception and Misunderstanding of Autonomy in Jammu and Kashmir” - and individual exhibit board and the Roosevelt Teacher's Choice winner 
  • Regan Wright and Izzy Sillers for “The White Rose: Defying Oppressors Through Communication” - a group performance and the Roosevelt Teacher's Choice Winner 
  • Libby Bures for “Riveting History” - an individual documentary - topical prize winner for Labor History 
  • Maria Lee for “The Children’s March of 1963: The Eye-Opening March that Desegregated The Most Segregated Place in America” - an individual website and coming in THIRD IN STATE and a Nationals alternate!
  • Ruby Clementson for “Sunday Bloody Sunday: Communicating Through Reports, Retaliations and Justice - an individual Exhibit board - coming in FIRST IN STATE AND GOING TO NATIONALS! 
  • Cai Hallstrom and Sydney McGrath for “The Fireside Chats: An Unprecedented Approach to Communication” a group performance - coming in FIRST IN STATE AND GOING TO NATIONALS!

SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION

Summer School is now open for registration.

Summer School Academy will consist of 3 two-week sessions in person at South High and Edison High

o       Session 1: June 21 – July 2 (Prioritizing current 11th and 12th graders)

o       Session 2: July 6 – July 15 (July 5th is off for observance of Independence Day)

o       Session 3: July 19 – July 29 

90-minute courses per session 

o       Period 1: 8:30 – 10:00

o       Period 2: 10:05 – 11:35

o       Lunch 11:35 – 12:05

o       Period 3: 12:05 – 1:35

There will be limited distance learning options for summer through FlexCredit Academy.

*Registration priority will be given to 12th graders and please note that some classes may not be available due to demand/teacher hires. Please register for Summer School by May 31st.

RHS VIRTUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Annual Roosevelt Foundation Pancake Breakfast is one of two fundraisers that funds valuable grants and scholarships. 

Due the ongoing uncertainty of COVID 19 we believe it's in the best interest of our guest and students to cancel the physical breakfast.

P-EBT HOTLINE

The 2020-2021 P-EBT Hotline is now open. The hotline can be reached Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families can get assistance, in multiple languages, by completing the P-EBT Help Form or calling 651-431-4608 or 833-454-0153. 

The P-EBT Hotline and P-EBT Help Form can help families:

·         Answer general questions relating to P-EBT

·         Sign up for or opt out of P-EBT texting

·         Understand notifications you received from the P-EBT program

·         Answer questions about the amount and timing of benefits issued to your card.

Senior Megan Connelly was one of the winners of the Expressions Challenge that Walgreens sponsors.  Megan submitted photos that she took at George Floyd Square and is the recipient of a $500 prize as well as having her photos displayed at Walgreens on Hiawatha Avenue.  Congratulations Megan!!

For students having tech trouble:

Please text your name and ID and what the issue is to 612-217-4476

We will communicate back with the student about when to come and exchange the tech, or we will give them the information they need to use their tech (logins, emails, password changes).  we will also follow up if there is a unique issue

Materials pickup:

Students can come pick up materials M-F between 9-2 at door 1 (Front Door).

Bus cards:

You must email Elizabeth.Larson@Mpls.k12.mn.us first to get it made.  When she says it is ready you can come to pick it up at door 6.  The educational Benefits form at www.schoolcafe.com must be completed first to determine buscard eligibility.

Roosevelt freshman, Bella Santan took 2nd place at the History Day state competition. Her subject is Breaking the Barrier for Women in Clinical Trials. 

She will be moving on to nationals, the ONLY Mpls Public School student to be representing.

MPS UPDATES

Mental health support line: 612-767-4158

MPS has partnered with Watercourse Counseling Center to create a telephone support line for our school community. The support line is available from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. There will be support for multiple languages. Call 612-767-4158. The service will link students, families and staff to a therapist and other resources. Additional information can be found on this MPS webpage.
