Hi there!
I’ll be teaching AVID 9 & 11 this year. I began my career at Southwest in MPS after graduating from North Dakota State University with a degree in biology. My interest in environmental education pulled me away from formal teaching at a young age and I have wandered my way through various educational settings for the past 25 years. I have taught children as young as four, adults in masters programs and every age in between. I am happy to be back in a high school setting, excited to be back in MPS and thrilled to be part of the AVID team at Roosevelt! When I’m not at school, you’ll most likely find me watching baseball, walking my dog or baking a “treat of the week.”
I came to Roosevelt as an AVID tutor in 2021 and fell in love with the program. What do I love about AVID? The students, of course! If you’re not familiar with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), it’s a national program that prepares students for entrance into four-year colleges. The AVID curriculum is designed around core strategies to help students develop their writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading (WICOR) skills. Students in the AVID program will see themselves grow both academically and socially and will be empowered to take ownership of their education. To learn more about the program visit the AVID website. Or, even better, send me an email. I’d love to tell you more about what makes this program a great fit for so many students!
