Hi, I’m Sammy Vankrevelen.  I am a new Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD) teacher at Roosevelt High school.  The 2020-2021 will be my 8th year of teaching special education.  The past 4 years I worked at Hmong International Academy as a DCD teacher, and my students had Severe Multiple Disabilities.  Before that I was an elementary Autism teacher at Weaver Lake Elementary in the Osseo District for a year, and a middle school Autism teacher at Parkway Montessori Middle School in the St. Paul Public Schools district for 2 years.  I did my student teaching at Marcy Open in the Minneapolis District and at Fernbrook Elementary and Park Center High school in the Osseo District.

I have a master’s degree in Developmental Disabilities from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and an undergraduate degree in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota-Morris.  I have teaching licenses in Developmental Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. I use my background in art by including art activities and other creative and hands on materials in lessons.

I have taught a variety of classes including: literacy, math, social skills, science/social studies, transition, middle school co-taught literacy, co-taught 6th grade science, and co-taught art classes.  I enjoy working with students who have Developmental Disabilities.  I enjoy the challenge of coming up with creative solutions to teach students with significant needs academic, functional, communication, and social and emotional skills.

I live in Coon Rapids.  I enjoy art, going to my family’s cabin in Hackensack, and spending time with my 2 Italian Greyhounds, Paco and Sophie, and my cat Izzy.
